Changes to people's needs at different stages of life are entirely predictable and easy to cater for. We need to stop treating adaptations as individual emergencies and build them into mainstream thinking and provision for everyone
Lives
Homes with traditional adaptations visible outside are more likely to be affected by crime (for example, break-ins and distraction burglaries). A Victim Impact Survey from the National Trading Standards Board revealed that 43% of homes affected by doorstep crime had a handrail, grab rail, outside ramp or key safe. People shouldn't be forced to advertise vulnerability this way. Disabled Facilities Grants and other funding should also be more focused on people's needs in the short and longer term
